When to contact your midwife
It’s important to know when and how to contact your midwife. Midwives are on-call 24 hours a day for labour, births or urgent midwifery care. We always want to make sure to provide kind, safe care but are also professionals with busy lives and families so please be thoughtful of this and keep contact to Monday – Friday, between 9am – 5pm, unless urgent. Below is a guide of situations for contacting your midwife.
Please immediately call if:
-
You think you’re in active labour
-
You’re less than 37weeks pregnant and feel labour pains or your waters break
-
You can have strong, on-going abdominal pain
-
Your baby is moving significantly less than normal
-
You have vaginal bleeding
-
You have any urgent concerns for you or your baby’s wellbeing
For any non-urgent concerns, texting is appropriate and will be responded when able but this may take several days, especially if we’re off-call (texts won’t forward like calls do), are at a labour/birth or have been up in the night to provide care to other families.
