Who we are

Mārama Midwives have a shared philosophy to provide personalised, informed and compassionate care to the families we work with. We all value taking a holistic approach and using interventions wisely rather than routinely. Find out more about each of us below:

Amy Earnshaw

Hey, my name is Amy and I am a UK trained midwife and I moved over to Aotearoa in 2022. I am passionate about all birth and supporting families to make the right choices for their journey whatever that might be. I particularly love homebirth having had 2 of my own babies at home and working as a homebirth midwife in England. I can care you right through your pregnancy journey, the birth of your baby and up to 6 weeks after. If you choose to birth out of area (Hamilton for example) then I will help you to a find a midwife that can support you as this is out of my area. I am based in Paeroa and I run my clinic out of The Wellness Clinic on Hughenden Street one day a week and the day changes each week. I do occasionally do appointments from the Thames Birthing Unit also and these are usually on a Monday morning.

Madeline Stewart

Hi I’m Maddie. I have been a midwife since 2006. I support women to birth at home or at the Thames Birthing Unit. Women should have a midwife they feel comfortable to talkwith openly. Feel free to call and see if I can be that person for you.

Annelies Zwaan

I’m Annelies and I work as an LMC (Lead Maternity Carer) midwife in Thames. I focus on providing information for women to make informed choices about their care and supporting family/whānau to be involved as they would like, working together towards the best outcomes for you, your baby and your whānau. I believe in only using intervention when needed or wanted, and have a small case load in order to have the time and energy to provide safe and kind care.

I support women to birth at the birthing centre in Thames or at home and will transfer to Waikato if needed in labour but don’t provide labour/birth care for women choosing to birth at Waikato hospital, just pregnancy and post birth cares.
